Savannah Jefferson

Savannah Jefferson, a spring 2025 »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓ graduating senior, goes through day-to-day life with her motto: "Every day is about purpose and progress.”

Savannah is a mass communications major with a journalism concentration from Bridgeport, Connecticut, with a strong interest in communications and storytelling. She’s a determined and hardworking student balancing her academics with leadership, personal life and other responsibilities.

“A typical day for me is a balancing act — juggling classes, leadership responsibilities, and sometimes work, all while staying focused on my academic and personal goals. I usually have a packed schedule, but I make time for campus involvement and using my voice to uplift others.”

Despite the hurdles, she manages to uphold all she sets out to do while remaining on top of her studies.

Savannah is involved in multiple organizations around Claflin, including the Plus Positive Women’s Organization, the Pre Alumni Council and Sociology Club. Throughout her collegiate years, she noticed the impact media have on informing and inspiring others, shaping her as the person she is now and what she wants to do in the future.

“Being a student at »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓ helped me realize the power of media to inform and inspire. That, along with my experience navigating personal challenges, pushed me to pursue a career where I can make a meaningful impact, especially in journalism, with my end goal to be a news anchor.”

As with every college student, motivation is key in pursuing a degree. Viewing the progress she made throughout her time at »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓmotivated Savannah to keep pursuing her bachelor’s degree in mass communications.

“At one point, I lost housing and had to work full-time just to get by — but I didn’t let that stop me. I kept my grades up, stayed active on campus and continued to lead. I’m motivated by my desire to break barriers, set an example for others, and make a difference in my community through communications and leadership.”

Savannah’s plans after graduation are to attend the University of South Carolina for graduate school, where she can do further studies in mass communications. She wants to stay involved with the community and advocate on issues she believes in.

“I plan to pursue a career that blends my skills in mass communications with community engagement. I’m especially interested in working local organizations, possibly in public relations, journalism or media production.”

Savannah’s chapter at »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓmay be over, but her story and legacy are far from stopping anytime soon.
