Genesis Morris
As Genesis Morris prepares to graduate from »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓ, her legacy as a leader and change agent cannot be ignored.
From the freshman year to her final days on campus, Genesis has left her mark not just with her titles, but with her ongoing dedication to serving and uplifting others.
Her leadership began early.
"Being Miss Freshman taught me how to lead early," she said. "It taught me how to serve and have actual relationships. That year gave me the confidence to remain involved."
That confidence took her through a series of titles, each one refining her leadership skills and expanding her reach.
Outside of pageant titles, Genesis was involved in the academic and social life at Claflin. As a proud member of the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors College, she conducted undergraduate research and founded The Educational Gazette, a medium to connect students with new opportunities.
She has also delivered speeches at events and created advocacy campaigns that gave students a voice. She was committed to leadership without fail.
"Each title unlocked a new way to learn and serve," Genesis said. "I always felt there was more I could learn and do. I wanted to use my voice to speak for and lift up others.:”
Reflecting on each part, Genesis highlights how they changed her:
- "Ms. Freshman taught me humility.
- “Ms. Orange and Maroon helped me learn creativity.
- “Ms. 1869 made me an advocate.
- “Ms. »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓtaught me how to lead with purpose and strength."
While the spotlight came with advantages, it wasn't without challenges.
"The best part has been meeting students," she said. "The worst part was bearing the pressure that being visible all the time brings."
Throughout her time, Genesis has been dedicated to making a lasting legacy.
"I led with intention. I was able to create content that informed and empowered students. I did initiatives that I hope will continue to grow."
One initiative close to her heart is Poised with Purpose, a monthly message series from her and the royal court queens to uplift and inspire women on campus.
As she prepares to crown her successor, Genesis hopes that her story leaves a lasting impact.
"I hope my story is that grace and strength can coexist. You don't have to be someone else to be an effective leader. Let purpose guide you."
Genesis reminds others that leadership is not always as seamless as it appears.
"It's not always easy. Sometimes you might wanna give up behind the scenes. But if your heart is in it, it's worth it."
With graduation on the horizon, Genesis's vision remains clear. She'll attend law school, continue writing and continue working with students.
"My focus is still justice and empowerment," she said. "Whether in courtrooms or classrooms, I'll continue to show up for them."
Her advice to underclassmen is simple but powerful: "Say yes to new things. Talk to different people. Your voice and story matter more than you think."
As to her most cherished moment at Claflin, Genesis recalls the day of her coronation.
"It was a moment of growth and grace. Everything I had worked towards came full circle."
Supporting the confident leader is a young woman rooted in love and support.
"My mom has been my rock of support," she said. "I've also had mentors and friends who believed in me when I wanted to give up."
And for those who only know her from the stage?
“I love plants, especially my plant Tempest,” she laughs. “I’m soft at heart!”
As Genesis Morris closes this chapter, she leaves »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓwith more than titles — she leaves a legacy of purpose, strength and authenticity.
