SENIOR PROFILE: Micheal, but we call him Mikey

Michael Coit  

On the morning of the final game, Michael Coit woke up at 8 a.m. to go to the baseball field to get some extra swings

“You have to find time to put in that work,” he said.  

That night, Michael was to play his final game as a Panther in a final matchup: »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓ vs. Columbus State. He spoke as he looked over the baseball field.  He loves playing baseball.  

“I was glad for the opportunity to play D2 baseball because a lot of people don’t get this chance,” he said.   

Teammates, coaches and parents gathered to recognize graduating players on senior night at Mirmow Field in Orangeburg. »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓlost but after the game, players shared moments and dapped each other up. Hearts heavy, but proud.  

Michael played baseball as an outfielder at »¨¶¼Ó°ÊÓfor four years and is considered a team leader. 

Michael, 22, sports management major, is a team player on the field, and brings his game to the classroom.

Born and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Micheal lives with both of his parents and has one sister. 

Now, Michael is ready to take his game beyond the diamond and classroom and into whatever comes next. After graduation, he plans to attend graduate school and get an MBA. 

While in graduate school, “I am going to continue my catering job,” he said.  

His advice to future students and baseball players is to “network, join clubs, interact/build relationships with your professors and peers. And always remember your ‘why’ and stay true to who you are.”  

Michael’s goal is to become a sport agent for professional athletes and have a sports bar. 

As to baseball at Claflin, Michael said: “Buring my time playing baseball at Claflin, I was taught how to attack and fight through adversity. Even when times are rough, you still must push through.”
